DISCOVERING

The Antas temple

Do not miss the temple of Antas, in the homonymous valley just 10 minutes from Fluminimaggiore: it is certainly one of the most interesting in all of Sardinia.
Under the empire of Caracalla, at the beginning of the third century AD, the Romans built it close to a Punic temple dating back to 500 BC, raised to worship the god Sardus Pater Babai.
The local Nuragic populations had worshiped the god Sid Addir and, under the dominion of the Punics who came from Carthage, the divinity Sid Addir Babai.
Even the Nuragic peoples, however, had chosen that area for their sacred rites, as confirmed by some finds.
The remains of a large mosaic floor and eight columns with Doric capitals are still visible, as well as two basins for ablutions.
The Antas temple was discovered in 1836 by general Alberto La Marmora.
